There have been many changes in our activities since we started on the website in 2007.

The Government has approved appointment of 15 officials to form a Core Group to help training our shooters for the CG. At present, our shooters are training at Sports Authority of India (SAI) ranges in Pune as there is no other suitable range available nearby. It is worth mentioning that the ranges at Pune are equipped with latest version of SIUS Electronic Targets. Boarding and lodging arrangements for the participants are provided in the range complex itself which is a great facility.

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) were asked to hold the ISSF World Cup in Rifle and Pistol events in March 2010. There would have been no problem in holding the World Cup immediately after the conduct of CSC as all administrative arrangements would have been in position. However, we learnt that quota for 2012 London Olympics will not be awarded to this World Cup, being more than 2 years prior to the Olympics. The Organizing Committee opined that for want of Olympic quota, we should not hold World Cup in India. Accordingly, we have withdrawn our offer for holding this World Cup which has been accepted by ISSF.

Based on the performance of shooters in various competitions/selection-trials, shooters have been selected for the National Squad. They are undergoing intensive training under the supervision of the officials of the Core Group. Many shooters both seniors and juniors from the National Squad have been given the opportunity to take part in various International Shooting Championships such as ISSF World Championships, ISSF World Cups, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, Asian Shooting Championships and so on. The Government has been very liberal in granting their permission to our talented marksman to participate in various international competitions This international exposure is greatly benefiting them in improving their standard. They have brought laurels to the country.

My heartiest congratulations to Abhinav Bindra who bagged a Gold medal in Air Rifle event in Beijing Olympics 2008. This is the first individual gold won by an Indian in an Olympic. He had also secured Gold in World Championship Zagreb 2006. India and NRAI in particular are proud of his remarkable achievements. Gagan Narang also a talented Air Rifle shooter has done exceedingly well. He has established qualifying world record in ISSF World Cup Bangkok 2008 with the perfect score of 600/600. He also bagged individual gold in ISSF World Cup Guangzouth 2008.

Ronjan Sodhi, a prominent Double Trap Shooter, has been bestowed with Arjuna Award by the President of India for his superlative performance for the last 3-4 years. He has many remarkable achievements to his credit. He won a Gold medal and established world record in this event in ISSF World Cup 2008. Recently, in Asian Clay Shooting Championship (ACSC) at Almaty, Kazakhstan 2009, he gave superlative performance by winning an individual Gold with an aggregate score of 188/200 (144 + 44) and played a pivotal role in bagging team Gold with Vikram Chopra and Vikram Bhatnagar. Earlier, he had secured Silver in ISSF World Cup Minsk 2009.

Sangram Dahiya also bagged Gold in the Junior Category in Double Trap in this ACSC at Almaty 2009. He had earlier won gold at International Junior Cup at ORIMATTILA (Finland) in May 2009 and a Bronze in Junior World Cup 2009 at Porpetto, Italy. Also our Double Trap Junior Men team won Gold in this Junior Cup. Shreyasi Singh, a talented Junior Women Trap Shooter bagged gold in the above International Junior Cup. Another Junior Shooter, Asher Noria from Hyderabad is shaping very well. He secured Gold in Double Trap Junior event in International Junior Competition Suhl 2009 with a brilliant qualifying score of 145/150 and final score 190/200. He established new national record. We hope both these junior shooters will climb the ladder to the top very soon.

In ISSF World Cup Beijing, ace Rapid Fire Pistol Shooter, Vijay Kumar, won Silver and Ms. Heena Sidhu also won Silver in Air Pistol Women in this World Cup. Ms. Ayonika Paul won Silver in Air Pistol Junior. Women in International Junior Competition Suhl 2009.

The following 3 shooters won Bronze in their respective events:

1) Mansher Singh - Trap ISSF World Cup, Minsk
2) Ms. Saniya Sheikh - Skeet Jr. in ISSF World Cup Porpetto, Italy-2009
3) Ms. Tejeswani Sawant - Standard Rifle 3P ISSF World Cup, Munich-2009

In preparation for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games October 2010, the shooters are being imparted intensive and regular training in India as well as abroad. When our ranges at Delhi are ready, we would further step up training to enable them to give their best performance in CSC and CG.

A large number of technical officials would be required to conduct the CWG and CSC. To meet this urgent requirement, we have conducted ISSF 'B' Judges Course from 30th September to 8th October, 2009 which was attended by 31 candidates and ISSF Electronic Scoring Target Course from 9th to 12th October, 2009 attended by 30 candidates. Mr. Ivy Derik of Scotland, Mr. A J Jallaludin and Col. Jaswant Singh were the instructors as selected by the ISSF. All those candidates who have qualified and have been given diplomas by NRAI are likely to get ISSF 'B' Judges License by the beginning of 2010. This will substantially cut down our expenditure as we will be able to manage the two tournaments mainly with the help of Indian Officials. However, we have to invite a few juries from other participating countries which is mandatory.

We had two International Coaches. Mr. Laszlo Szusak, Rifle Coach, left us in May this year almost after six years of stay in India. Mr. Csaba Gyorik, Pistol Coach, had left us earlier on termination of his contract. Mr. Stanislav Lapidus from Kazakhstan, who is a Rifle Coach of great repute, has been appointed as our Coach. We hope our rifle shooters will take full advantage of his advice/instructions. We have Mr. Marcello Dradi from Italy, who is one of the best International Coach in Double Trap and Trap events. He has been coaching our shooters for many years and as a result our shooters have tremendously improved their performance and won many medals in various international competitions.

We did not have a Skeet Coach for a long time. Recently, Ms. Shan Zhang from China has joined us as a Skeet Coach. We hope skeet shooters will now show better results.
